Las Vegas Review Journal Winners and Losers of 2007

31 December 2006

Who better to choose the best of Vegas than the people of Las Vegas themselves? Every year, the Las Vegas Review Journal asks for locals to cast their vote in dozens of categories that give the rest of us a pretty good idea of the things to do - and the things to avoid - on our next trip. We've handpicked our selection of top categories for you.

Best Wedding Chapel

Little Church of the West (Readers Pick) - the same as last year, and for several years before. They are still doing what they do best, and doing it right.

Graceland Wedding Chapel (Staff Pick) - one of our favourites too, with friendly and helpful staff.

Vegas Wedding Chapel (Online Pick). A vast range of ceremonies available from this friendly chapel.

Best Strip Hotel

Bellagio Hotel (Readers Pick) won by a large margin.

Stardust Hotel (Staff Pick) - we think a little nostalgia came to play here as the hotel was demolished earlier this year.

Best Pool

Mandalay Bay (Readers Pick). Not a surprise as the new look pool is amazing.

Red Rock Resort (Staff Pick). Quite a way out of town, but impressive nonetheless.

Best Buffet

Bellagio Hotel Buffet (Readers Pick). Best hotel and best buffet - and a cheaper option than high-end dining.

Worst Buffet

Circus Circus Hotel Buffet No arguments here either - staff and readers alike voted this the worst buffet again, so probably one to avoid.

Best Place To Go On A Budget

Fremont Street Experience (Readers Pick). A canopy of lights and a soundshow to match the changing light show. Definitely worth a visit, but personally, we prefer the Bellagio fountains.

Best Place To Go When Price Is No Object

Wynn Hotel (Readers Pick). New and impressive, this hotel is well worth a visit - there's no obligation to eat, drink or anything else while you're there - just enjoy the free spectacle.

Most irritating thing tourists do

And this is one to bear in mind next time you visit Vegas. 'Jaywalking' was again voted the most irritating thing that tourists do. Next time you're being dazzled by the Vegas spectacle, try to remember that the locals don't like it, and you'll have less fun in hospital.

You can find a complete list of 2007 winners in all categories here. There are individual categories for everything from the best Italian Restaurant through to where to find the best bagels - it's well worth a look. Enjoy!
