Lily Of The Valley Wedding Chapel - the inside story

7 May 2011

In the latest of our series of articles looking at wedding chapels in Las Vegas, we caught up with Emma J Mayberry from the Lily Of The Valley Wedding Chapel.

Q) Thanks for taking the time to talk to us today, Emma. Can you let us know when Lily Of The Valley Wedding Chapel was founded?

A) We started 1st February, 2005

Q) Why is your chapel different? Why should a Las Vegas bride-to-be get married with you?

A) The chapel is the only wedding chapel owned by an African America woman, and is located across the street from where you get your Marriage License. We have great low prices, and creative wedding packages from the simple service to the fabulous. We have everything you need under one roof including dresses, veils, bridal bouquets, wedding photography, limo service, and traditional romantic music.

Q) As a bride at your chapel, what can I expect in terms of wedding planning and my wedding day?

A) Weddings can be customized to your request, liking and budget. Whether it's a Chapel setting with a theme wedding, or Locations, such as State Parks, Valley Of Fire, Red Rock, Lake Meade, City parks, or a Romantic theme such as a Helicopter ride or Hot Air-Balloon ride.

Q) What does your chapel do best?

A) Customer service.

Q) What are the most popular weddings at your chapel?

A) The Power Of Love is the most popular choice for the bride and groom. This wedding package offers Unity Ceremony, Tux and Gown, Music, one hour Limousine hire, 45 pictures on a CD slide show, DVD of the wedding for $389 dollars excluding taxes and minister donation.

Q) What are the most unusual requests you've ever had?

A) A lot of our couples ask for Elvis Presley to perform the ceremony. We use an Elvis impersonator  - Eddie Powers is his name from Las Vegas, and he puts on a great show for the wedding party.

Q) Have any celebrities tied the knot at your chapel?

A) Yes Terry Fator [winner of 'America's Got Talent'], and more.

Q) How did you get into the weddings business?

A) I relocated to Las Vegas from Orlando, Florida in 2003 and started work with some of the temp services. I open the ministry and performed weddings, worked for some of the wedding chapels here for a while, and started Lily Of The Valley Wedding Chapel in 2005. I love customer service, and believe in Marriage.

Q) As a Las Vegas insider, what are your top tips for visitors?

A) Tips on Hotels: Get great hotel rates arriving Sunday and departing Friday - if possible avoid Friday and Saturdays and major holidays as they will be more expensive.

Tips on Shows: Buy your show tickets at the same day booths on the strip and save 50%. This means your tickets will be available to go to the show the same day you purchase it. There are also some free acts and shows for kids at Circus Circus and an indoor theme park at a flat price.

Tips on Restaurants: Best Seafood Gumbo is at Palace Station at their Oyster Bar; all you can eat catfish can be found at Hush Puppy's Restaurant; all you can eat Seafood Buffet at the Rio Hotel and the Bellagio Hotel; great Steakhouses are Ruth Chris and Roy's - when you arrive, look for the specials.

Tips on Shopping: Bargains can be had at the $10 stores in New York, New York Soho Village and also located in MGM.
