With thanks to Erin Gilday and Alicia Hamper - Wedding Coordinators at Planet Hollywood, Las Vegas for all their help with this article.
Q) When was the Planet Hollywood Wedding Chapel established?
A) There has been a wedding chapel here on property since the re-opening of the Aladdin in 2000, but couples have been getting married at this property since as early as 1969 when Elvis and Priscilla were married.
Q) Why is your wedding chapel different? - why should brides-to-be choose you?
A) Our chapel is modern and beautiful accented by a glass art feature by world renowned artist Dale Chihuly at the altar. This gives the chapel something unique that couples love. We also offer a "candlelight" ceremony for the ultimate in romance. Hollywood isn't just the theme of the hotel; our couples are celebrities for the day and can even have a Red-Carpet entrance with paparazzi, and interviews as they enter the chapel.
Q) As a bride at your chapel, what can I expect in terms of wedding planning and my wedding day?
A) We have one dedicated ceremony location here at the chapel, so we only hold one ceremony at a time, ensuring you are the center of our attention on your special day. Our Wedding Chapel Team is extremely attentive and will put together all of the elements of the packages, as well as making themselves available to offer suggestions and referrals. With 99% of our couples coming from out of state, or out of the country, we know planning such a big life event from a distance can cause anxiety, so we are set up to take care of all of the little details through email, phone or fax to ensure everything is set and ready for your arrival.
Q) What does your wedding chapel do best?
A) Most people have never attended a wedding in Las Vegas, and really don't know what to expect other than what they see on TV with a drunken couple stumbling down the aisle to get married by Elvis. So, The Chapel at Planet Hollywood's goal is to have every guest walk out of the ceremony commenting on how they are so surprised by what a beautiful and special wedding they've just seen. We achieve this by giving personal service to our couples resulting in an event that is everything they wanted and more.
Q) What are the most popular weddings at the chapel?
A) Our most popular wedding package is the Princess Bride package that includes everything for the ceremony and an in-suite cake, cocktail and hors d'oeuvre reception in one of our opulent and exclusive 1750 square foot Panorama Suites. It's everything a couple could want including the fun-hip atmosphere that is carried throughout the entire property.
Q) What are the oddest/funniest requests you've ever had?
A) We have had a groom escorted down the aisle by Star Wars Storm Troopers, a Mariachi Band and a request for a Dr. Who inspired Tardis wedding cake (which may not see so odd to you in the UK, but it was definitely a unique request for us).
Q) Have any celebrities tied the knot at your chapel?
A) We know Elvis and Priscilla were married somewhere on the property, if it was in this exact room we are not sure (I can't find anyone who still works here from 1969). As for other celebrity couples, we don't' kiss and tell. However, Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher were married in our chapel for the movie "What Happens in Vegas". That said, the décor in the chapel in the movie was all props and not our current look.
Q) How did you get into the weddings business?
A) The team we put together has a myriad of previous work experience in sales, coordinating, administrative work and customer service. The one thing we all have in common is a LOVE for weddings. For us weddings are not just a job but a way of life, including watching wedding themed TV shows, movies and making our families crazy with unrelenting talk about weddings. We affectionately refer to it as "Wedding on the Brain"
Q) As a Las Vegas insider, what are your top tips for visitors?
A) Vegas has some of the best night life and restaurants in the world, there is never a lack of things to do. Some things first time visitors don't consider are a necessity of comfortable footwear. From Planet Hollywood, you can look down the street and see Paris, Caesars, and Flamingo just a few blocks away.
However, all of that walking can be hard on your feet. So definitely be sure to check out the gorgeous designer 6 inch heels at Steve Madden and Chinese Laundry, but remember to throw a comfy pair of flats in your bag for exploring the Las Vegas Strip. In the summer months it can be 110 degrees during the day and still 98 degrees at 2am, so remember to stay hydrated.
