How long do I need to be resident in Las Vegas to get married?
There's no time limit - you can go get your marriage licence as soon as you get off the plane if you want to, and then go get married straight away.
How do I get a marriage licence?
You and your partner will need to turn up in person at the Marriage Bureau of Las Vegas.
You can download an application form here to save time once you get to the office, which is open 8am to midnight daily with effect from 30th August 2006.
According to the site: 'Applicants must be a Male and a Female, at least 18 years of age, and not nearer of kin than second cousins or cousins of half blood, and not having a husband or wife living'. There is no blood test and no waiting period to get your licence. You will need passports as proof of identity.
If you are divorced, you will need to know the exact date and city of the divorce - please see the site for further details.
How long does the wedding ceremony last?
Usually around 15-30 minutes, but it depends on the chapel you choose - they will be able to advise.
Is there a limit to the numbers of guests I can have at the wedding?
It depends on the chapel you choose. Either use our 'browse' facility, or look at the individual chapel details.

I want a religious ceremony - how do I organise this?

Will my marriage be legal in the UK?
It will. There is no need to register your wedding when you get back to the UK - your wedding certificate will be sufficient proof that you are married.
What do I do about my passport since my name will change while abroad?
As long as the name on your passport matches the name on your travel documentation, it's not a problem - you can change it at your leisure when you're back in the UK. See the UK Passports Office site for details.
When do I get my marriage certificate?
The minister performing your wedding has up to ten days to register your marriage. You can then get a copy of your marriage certificate for $10 by cheque or money order from the Clark County Recorder. You can either pick it up in person, or you can have it sent by post.
Do I need special insurance?
In addition to your usual travel insurance, we would recommend you cover dresses/suits and rings.
Can I hire a dress and suits out there?
You certainly can - there are a lot of specialist hire shops in Las Vegas, and your chapel may be able to recommend one.
I'm already married - can I renew my vows?
If you're already married, you can always go for a renewal of vows service, but you will not be issued with a marriage licence for this. You may be asked for a copy of your marriage certificate by some chapels before they will carry out a renewal of vows service - check with the relevant chapel.

How much is it going to cost?
After you've got to Las Vegas, and you've got the dress, it's going to cost as little or as much as you like. You can custom-make your wedding at most chapels, but they also sell packages. These packages are so wide-ranging that you will probably find one to suit you. Most packages will include your chapel time, flowers, music, photographs and a video/DVD of your wedding, and they end up being very good value for minimum effort on your part. Most chapels exclude minister's fees, so expect to pay upwards of $50 for this - your chapel will advise.
Packages at the independent chapels usually cost between $100 and $1,400 depending on where you go and what you want. Packages at the hotel chapels usually cost between $1,000 and $8,000, though you can pay upwards of $20,000 for top of the range packages with accommodation thrown in. Just set your budget, and there'll be a package that's right for you.
For an excellent overview of the chapels, we can recommend the book Neon Nuptials that we used when planning our own wedding.
You can also use our chapel browse facility to find the packages within your price range.
What do I wear?
There's no dress code at most venues, but it's best to check with chapels on an individual basis. Just remember, Las Vegas is in the middle of a desert, so it's going to be hot. A traditional long white dress with veil may not be right for you because of the heat if your ceremony and/or photographs are going to be happening outside, or somewhere lacking air conditioning. You can arrange something to wear in the UK, or use one of the many dress hire shops to equip you for your big day.
